All the stages of the thistle were right there before me when I parked my car at the Ottawa hotel. I was there for a wholesale show featuring some of the clothing brands we carry. 

As long as I didn't have to touch the prickly thistle or walk through it, I could appreciate its wild beauty. When I went into the show, you can bet I was touching all the clothes! I chose the best of it all for you for next summer. 

While I was in Ottawa, I had the delightful opportunity to meet Michael of Michael's Dolce. We've had many delicious varieties of his small-batch preserves here at Tipped for the last couple of years, but this is the first time we got to meet. He is every bit as creative and friendly as you would expect! 

His kitchen is located in the east end of Ottawa. It's tidy and sparkling clean…with large ovens! What I learned is that Michael is first and foremost a baker. Preserves happened along the way. 

When I arrived early Monday morning, he was busy preparing Focaccia for a weekly order he delivers to La Bottega, a long-standing Italian grocer in the ByWard Market. His Focaccia has become part of the tradition for many family gatherings. Just like his preserves may be part of yours. 

On this trip, I picked up more of his delicious Lemon Ginger Marmalade, which I have been obsessed with after one of our customers raved about it, plus two other treats - Apricot & Chili Jam and, fresh out of the pot, Yellow Plum & Star Anise Jam. Michael loves to create unique flavour combinations that will surprise you and become new favourites!

This small and beautiful musical jewellry box arrived a couple of weeks ago. It plays “I Can't Help Falling in Love” when you open it. No, it's not Elvis singing, but if you were in the shop on Wednesday, we had a musical tribute to Dolly playing all day, which did include Elvis.

It's time. The fall clothes are going out on the racks, gently pushing aside summer. This short Picadilly jacket is so dreamy soft! 

Here come the greens and the browns, the colours of fall. This sweater vest is warm and soft. So is the green sueded skirt. More fall on the racks each week now. 

The vintage room is in on the change of seasons with classics sprinkled among the unique pieces.
