The Tipped Ship

Puppy dog eyes! This adorable face is on a plush cushion. I'm not sure whose bed this dog gets to sleep on but someone will be delighted to receive it! The mug beside it is a treasure by Kingston-based Alice Hinther. “I hate morning people. And mornings. And people.” Classic wry Alice humour.

Who said we don't have a men's section? We might have. But this little collection caters to the men in your life, or to you kind sir!

Headbands galore! Our wonderful knitter, Judith Wilkinson, has taken even more inspiration from the supplier of the wool, Sheila Dean of New Leaf Farm. Beginning with the wool from the sheep, many of which she has known personally, she has included hand drawn tags on each new headband, including the child-sized ones, and named each of them individually! Blueberry. Cream Soda. Birthday Cake. Cotton Candy. Snow day. Aunt Bea's Rag Rug. And more. Come check them out…

Look who's walking into the Tipped Boutique! From the bottom to the top, we have Canadian Yoga Jeans, Emily Slim Leg in a soft chocolate brown, BC-based Echo Verde Chalet Crew one-size sweater, a classic denim shirt by Liverpool Los Angeles, and the Mushroom Cross-body Bag by Kingston-based Beam Creations. Fresh fall colours, comfort and style!

Jam of the week: FROG jam from Lyndhurst small batch maker, Stone Bridge Farm! Fig, Raspberry, Orange & Ginger. “Sweet, tangy, and layered with a subtle warmth from ginger. It’s the jar you bring out when you want something simple to feel a little more elevated.” Besides…figs! yum!

Jam of the week: Bruce Cockburn, Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws. Released in 1979, his ninth album, the one with Wondering Where the Lions Are.

A visual artist was in for the first time last week, brimming with creative suggestions. I love this one: Please meet the now aptly named “Johnny Cash”. Seriously, my thanks go to everyone who has used our cash machine. It's being used by enough folks that it's here to stay. Hurray!

What to do on foot at 9 am on a Tuesday on Danforth Avenue with my good friend Carol? We took a walk and window shopped, then crossed to walk back on the other side of the street. Oh, the chilly wind! To our great delight, when we opened the door at Fresh Floral Creations, 175B Danforth Avenue, Toronto, we were met with warm tropical air and a true delight for the senses.

Bruno Duarte, the owner and inspiration behind Fresh Floral, and Daniella Pateman, the head designer were both there, deep in their creative work. The whole shop was full of installations “blending organic materials and foraged items together to create works of art”. If you're ever nearby, it's worth a stop.

Speaking of art, as a regular reader of this newsletter or a visitor to Tipped, you may remember this featured work by Joan de Bot. A Dutch artist who lived for some years in New York, this original piece and another of hers, now hang in their new home in Toronto. Together they sold for over $5000 and prompted the best reason for a business trip - to safely deliver and help hang these works. Tipped, you've come a long way baby!

Happy spooky Hallowe'en. This custom artwork is by Julia, the youngest of the Tipped team!
