On the shore

Charlie and I went to Sand Lake Park on Tuesday afternoon. I sat in the sunshine by the water and reflected (pun!) on the summer we've just had. What a summer it was! We didn't get through a week without rain all summer long and let's not talk about soggy May that started it all. It makes me appreciate this dry, albeit cooler, week we're having all the more.

That lovely original watercolour by former Elginite Kathleen Small captures that easy feeling of summer by the lake with a natural shoreline. It's here on consignment, and I'm fine with it staying a while longer so I can hold onto summertime.

That's some of summer's bounty right there: creamed honey by Stonedge Farm, Elgin - original and cinnamon. Yum yum! We're stocked up.

Our Tipped staffer, Bryan, loves PUR gum and mints because they taste great and don't have aspartame. Instead, they're sweetened with Xylitol. What's Xylitol you ask and why do I care? It's "an all-natural sugar alcohol that looks and tastes just like sugar, yet has 40% fewer calories.” He's right! They taste great. So we brought it in to share with you.

At the risk of dating myself, I recognized these right away when they came in. They're porcelain place cards, write-on/wipe-off. If you're setting a table, these would be that perfect added touch.

Added touches - a pair of vintage drapery holdbacks. Add a small and practical bit of elegance to your decor. We have one pair…

Kristen den Hartog and her sister, Tracy Kasaboski, stopped by Tipped this past week to restock their books. It's always a delight to have writers at Tipped and to catch up on snippets of their writing life.

Grab your book and snuggle under the covers in something from our new collection of nightwear. Look who you'll find on these ones…

Locally-made hand-knit socks. We had barely put this basket out when the first two pairs went home. I think they were going to be gifts, but nothing is stopping you from picking out your own favs. And yes, I love wearing socks to bed to keep my toes toasty!

Thanks to Teresa, the two pots of Coleus are snuggled up in the reception area at Guthrie House, where they look grand. We'll see how they do this winter, but you can't say we didn't try!

Snuggling under the extra blanket,
Trish at Tipped

"Rob is one of the unique voices of North American music: a captivating performer, stellar songwriter, and a gifted storyteller. Rob's original material is a masterclass in songwriting; spare, essential lyrics that get at the meat of his topics with no filler. Lines like "I want to start a fight just to let you win" resonate with anyone that has ever navigated a long-term relationship. Rob is equally compelling as a music historian, with a keen sense of "songs that matter" from the early days of North American popular music. All of this delivered with one of the great voices of modern folk and his signature, hard-driving fingerstyle guitar." Thom Lambert, Haliburton Folk Society
